Werner Wilhelm

Werner Wilhelm was born on the 16th of January, 1928 in Grossobringen, Germany, the only son of Martha Brehmer and Doctor of Medicine Werner Wilhelm. He moved to Rittergut Zschippach by Gera in Germany where he lived until 1945 when he jumped the East German border under gunfire and immigrated to Zurich Switzerland where he studied medicine. One year later he immigrated to Toronto Canada via London, England, setting sail to Canada on the “Empress of Canada”. After completing his Master of Science in Engineering he settled in the Detroit area for the remainder of his life. Werner owned and managed Wil Mar and St. Annes nursing homes, his crown jewels, until his death in 1993.
Werner lived through extraordinary times under the Nazis and Communists and he wanted his life’s experiences to be recorded for posterity. Werner had many colorful conversations with his wife Sandy and about his life. He requested that she preserve these many memories in writing for generations to come. It is in honoring his request that this biography was written.
Werner was a most colorful character who will not soon be forgotten. He will be sadly missed by many at Wil Mar and St. Anne’s nursing homes who knew and loved him.
